Centuries ago, the ancients discovered the healing power of music. That it also has a tranquilizing effect was famously observed by the English dramatist William Congreve: "Music hath charms to soothe a savage breast." In modern times, music became an integral part of spa experiences and also of individual journeys of healing.

As the spa experience has evolved beyond a series of hands-on treatments into a more encompassing lifestyle, the importance of music to the spa setting has grown in prominence. Yet music has often seemed like no more than an after-thought in the way many spas and spa lovers approach the therapeutic environment.

Pianist/composer Kevin Misevis has gone beyond the "usual" and created a mystical musical antidote for stress inspired by his travels to exotic places, where he photographed the sights, listened to the sounds, and experienced a range of healing treatments.

His multi-CD series is a beneficial addition to the spa environment, promoting relaxation and an easy inwardness. This energy-promoting "flow music" is an innovative lure for the progressive healing spa environment and encourages meditation at home.

For Misevis, the vehicle for this journey is the piano, the instrument he has played since age four. He has spontaneously composed and performed classical music channeled with Ch'i Gung healing intent. Ch'i Gung is an ancient Chinese practice aimed at boosting one's natural energies and well-being using movement and the natural rhythm of the breath. While Ch'i Gung masters regularly perform to Eastern music, linking piano and Ch'i Gung is an innovative application not seen before.

When Kevin debuted his original melding of modern classical piano and Ch'I Gung in October, 2006, at Manhattan's Rubin Museum of Art, he was accompanied not by musicians, but by five Ch'I Gung masters from Beijing.

Rather than incorporate the exotic sounds he has heard in his world travels, he has let his internal music flow through his acoustic grand piano. The music has been colored by his journeys, and he references lost kingdoms, ancient gods and far-off planets as part of his "soul traveling."

Of his work, Kevin says: "'Soul Traveler' is the manifestation of my lifelong journey of musical healing, love, spiritual and metaphysical consciousness and evolution, a mystical treasure of spontaneously composed and performed classical music from the tantra of the universe.

"I began spontaneously composing and recording Soul Traveler' in 1999 in my forest sanctuary at Castle Mountain. Soul Traveler Prelude,' released in January of 2006, demonstrates the mystical process of spontaneous composition. It also previews Soul Traveler 2012,' my new multi-media twelve-CD and DVD."

Special rates are available to spas and custom-designed packages can be crafted to suit the individual needs of different spas and spa-goers. The CDs make a wonderful gift.

About Kevin Misevis: The oldest of five children, he began piano lessons at age four and was discovered to have perfect pitch at age seven. At the age of 14, he formed a five-piece band to play Catskill resorts. In his twenties, Kevin was a director and pianists for numerous entertainers. In 1978 he co-wrote and produced "Dance All Over the World," a track from the "Keep on Dancin'" album featuring TC James and the Fist-O-Funk Orchestra, which became a top 10 Dance hit on the Billboard Dance charts and a number one hit on the Canadian Dance charts. Over the next 15 years, Kevin wrote and produced hundreds of songs. Tragedy struck his family when his son, Rajah, was diagnosed with brain cancer at age six; he died in Kevin's arms a year.

Throughout Rajah's illness, Kevin researched and studied everything he could in an attempt to save his son's life. This profound and challenging experience was a spiritually awakening journey that introduced Kevin to the world of energy healing and alternative therapies. After his son's passing, the journey continued, taking Kevin through the Americas, Asia, Africa, Indonesia, Europe and the Caribbean, where he studied indigenous philosophies, meditation and energy work while experiencing healing techniques at spas and wellness centers around the world. He researched and witnessed the effects that music had on healing, and in 1999, while doing piano overdubs at Castle Mountain Studios in the Catskills, discovered that his healing journey had unlocked a gift of spontaneous musical composition.

Kevin resides, with this family, at Castle Mountain in Stamford, New York. For more information on his music, visit Kevin Misevis: Soul Traveler at Amazon.com.
