While a spa getaway can provide relaxation and pampering, it’s also possible to create a a pleasant spa retreat in your home. And what could be cheapter than that?

First, choose a good place for your spa experience.

Dim the lights and invite a peaceful state of mind.

Burn a good-quality soy wax candle and set the stage with the kind of meditative music you hear during a spa treatment. You can find a good selection at Real Music.

I hope you have a bathtub because the next step can be to immerse yourself in a warm bath with a good quality bath oil. You can find plenty of choices online or in your favorite drugstore.

If you have a sleep mask, place that on your face. The soft and cooling shape will block out light and contour your face with gentle pressure.

Following your bath, hydrate your skin with a good body moisturizer.

Don’t forget your lips. Use a top quality lip balm (one with no petrolateum or petroleum jelly, which will only dry your lips). One of my favorites is by Epicuren. It has an spf of 15 and contains tea tree oil (costs about $5).

And to round out your spa experience, savor a piece of good, dark chocolate — which not only tastes delicious, but is also good for you.
