DIY Coffee Treatment for Cellulite?
The Jewel Dunn’s River Resort & Spa in Ocho Rios offers the Jamaican Blue Mountain Cellulite Package for banishing those annoying dimples where you don’t want them. But if a spa visit is not in your future, bring the flavor of the islands home (literally) with this easy do-it-yourself treatment from the resort’s luxe Radiant Spa.
The rationale for this treatment with a kick: “Concentrated caffeine is known for lessening cellulite in many topical creams, but Jamaicans have been onto the miraculous properties of coffee for generations,” says Radiant Spa Director Jacque Giscombe. “Massaging the grinds into the skin in circular motions helps smooth the surface by exfoliating dead skin and stimulating the break down of cellulite below the surface.”
The spa treatment starts with an organic sugar cane exfoliation, followed by a steam and milk body wrap, which helps to eliminate toxins, and finishes with a warm, coffee-infused coconut oil massage. Certainly good to the last drop, the special package price for the trio of treatments is $190, a savings of $60 when purchased separately.
To Do it at Home: Mix two cups of mid-coarsely ground Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee (available anywhere coffee is sold); ½ cup of organic sugar, and three tablespoons of organic coconut oil. To begin the treatment, take a hot shower (which replaces the steam room as the skin should be moist and warm to open pores). Stand in the shower use long circular motions from neck to toes, concentrating on areas of concern. Rinse coffee mixture from your skin and do not apply body lotion. The treatment should be done three times per week for optimal results.
